The Testudo Gen 2 Plate Carrier provides a tight fit and plenty of space for everything you’ll want in a full tactical loadout. Inspired by the Roman Testudo Formation
In 36 BC, the historian Plutarch gave the first description of the Roman Army?s formidable Testudo formation. It consisted of a group of soldiers tightly packed, with shields held in front and above, so that nothing could penetrate the advancing unit. The Testudo Gen 2 Carrier takes that vision and applies it to personal body armor: Having formidable protection by maximizing coverage.
Built for Durability and Comfort
The Testudo is made mostly of 500D Nylon, with bar tacks reinforcing all stress points and PALS webbing covering the outside for attaching your MOLLE-compatible pouches, holsters, and accessories. The generous padding also prevents chafing, making for an armor setup that’s easy to wear for long periods of time. The adjustable shoulder straps, made of nylon, also help you fit the carrier as the low offset makes the rear plate pocket ride at the proper height.
Fully Adjustable Cummerbund for a Custom Fit
One of the biggest advantages of the Testudo is its cummerbund: A sash around the lower half of the carrier that both gives you side-plate pockets for extra armor and gives you full adjustability to tighten the carrier to a perfect fit. This adjustability makes the Testudo more than a “one-size-fits-all” solution since the size itself can be changed to best suit you.

What does level 3 body armor protect against? The National Institute of Justice (NIJ) protection rating for level 3 body armor is 6x shots of 7.62x51mm @ 2,780 FPS from 51′ away. Some level III plates are considered special threat plates in that in addition to this they will address other common threats. For example, our level 3 Heritage Plate will stop 5.56×45 M855 “green tips” @ 2,750 FPS from a 16″ barrel, while our P2 plates will stop 5.56×45 M193 Ball @ 3,200 FPS.
The Multi-Rifle Magazine Pouches from Armored Republic accommodate all common rifle magazines in a single, double, or triple magazine pouch, and are capable of accommodating magazines such as 5.56×45 (.223), 7.62×39 AK, or 7.62×51 NATO (.308 Winchester).Secure yet accessible magazine storage. Each section can accommodate up to two small rifle magazines or one large rifle magazine. Front-mounted elastic tabs add versatility and additional mounting points for 12-gauge shotgun shells, tourniquets, chem-lights, or other horizontally mounted accessories. Pouches are constructed from genuine 500D Cordura nylon, and retention flaps feature an easy-to-grip Hypalon® pull tab. The removable retention strap allows you to adjust magazine capacity, size, and retention or remove it entirely to run an opened-top configuration.
Each trauma pad is specially engineered to mitigate blunt force trauma in case your armor takes a round and reduces the amount of back face deformation that could occur, which can mitigate the risk of injury after impact. Designed to be worn in conjunction with and behind your body armor, our Trauma Pads reduce the amount of energy transferred to your body, reducing felt energy through your armor.
